Exchange brings PBR Bull-on-Base experience to Fort Bragg
FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Soldiers and Families stepped away from their daily routines Sept. 17 for a unique afternoon at the North Post Main Exchange, where the Army and Air Force Exchange Service hosted its first PBR Bull-on-Base event at Fort Bragg.
The event brought the PBR experience onto the installation, giving community members an opportunity to see the bull up close, speak with the team, and enjoy food and ice cream trucks.
For Exchange leadership, the event was an opportunity to provide Soldiers and Families with more than an afternoon of entertainment but a way to show appreciation for the community they serve.
“We are in challenging times for our troops and their Families,” Kim Neiss, General Manager for Fort Bragg Exchange, said. “We, as the Exchange, are always looking for something to show the appreciation we have. Our biggest motto is ‘Family serving Family.’”
The Bull-on-Base event marked the first time the Fort Bragg Exchange hosted an experience of its kind. Alex Dewberry, General Manager / Administrative Assistant for the Fort Bragg Exchange, said they regularly work with the Gallo Horse Soldier team, but when the opportunity arose to bring the bull to Fort Bragg, they saw another way to give back to the military community.
For an installation where Soldiers and their Families regularly navigate demanding schedules, trainings, and time apart, Dewberry said seemingly small experiences can make a big difference.
“We strongly believe, being at the largest installation worldwide, that it is the little things that will make a difference,” Neiss said. “Our troops are always ready to go. So yes, a little surprise event for them and, of course, the Families who stay behind.”
This commitment extends beyond the Exchange’s traditional role of providing retail goods and services.
“Family serving family is what we stand for and does not only apply to what goes on in our stores,” Neiss said.
The event was designed to offer Soldiers and Families an opportunity to enjoy time together and briefly get away from the demands of everyday life.
“We are hoping excitement is what they take away,” Neiss said. “A little moment away from the daily stress.”
The Exchange also partnered with Gallo Horse Soldier to bring retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bob Pennington to Fort Bragg. During his visit, Pennington shared his story with Soldiers from all around.
“Our troops are always excited to hear their heroes’ stories,” Dewberry said.
Dewberry said events like Bull-on-Base reflect the Exchange’s continued effort to work with its vendors to create experiences specifically made for the Fort Bragg community.
