Governor Hochul Highlights Her Historic Expansion of Free Pre-K Seats in More Than 400 School Districts Across New York State
State Senator Shelley Mayer said, "I am absolutely thrilled that so many school districts and thousands of New York’s 4-year-olds can now access free, high- quality full day pre-K this school year. That includes 19 school districts right here in Westchester County, including Tuckahoe in my district. I have fought for decades to expand access to early childhood education, and I am so pleased that with Governor Hochul’s commitment and leadership, together with the legislature’s long-time commitment, we can greatly expand the number of schools offering pre-K. At a time when costs continue to rise and New York is receiving less support from the federal government; this investment will bring both financial relief to thousands of New York parents and quality education to their children. I thank Governor Kathy Hochul and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for their extraordinary leadership. I am excited to see what the future holds for these students and our communities."
