Pender County Recognizes Child Support Awareness Month

Pender County joined communities across North Carolina this August in observing Child Support Awareness Month, following a statewide proclamation issued by Gov. Josh Stein. The observance highlights the role child support plays in the well-being of children and families.

Throughout August, the Pender County Child Support Office recognized parents who consistently meet their support obligations. Staff displayed a banner in the Department of Health and Human Services building under the theme "Because of YOU…," highlighting how consistent child support helps provide school supplies, medical care, clothing, nutritious food and stability for children.

To show appreciation, staff mailed thank-you notes to parents who consistently met their child support obligations without the need for enforcement action, recognizing their commitment, encouraging positive engagement and celebrating the important role they play in strengthening their children’s futures.

County departments joined in recognizing Child Support Awareness Month by wearing green, a color associated with growth, stability and the support for families. Staff from the Department of Social Services and the Legal Department, along with the Child Support deputy sheriff, participated to help raise awareness of the importance of child support and the shared role agencies, parents and community partners play in helping children thrive.

From July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, Pender County's Child Support team collected $3,673,953 for local children and families. The total reflects the hard work of Child Support staff, the cooperation of community partners and the dedication of parents who ensure their children have the resources they need.

Pender County remains committed to supporting families, promoting responsible parenthood and helping ensure children receive the financial foundation and stability necessary for lifelong success.
