North West Government hosts official tombstones unveiling ceremony in memory of four children who lost their lives in fire incident, 23 Aug

Tombstones for four children who lost their lives in a fire incident in Ventersdorp to be unveiled through Premier’s Operation Dignity Programme

Mahikeng: The North West Provincial Council on AIDS (NWPCA) which is located in the Office of the Premier, in collaboration with private partners, will through the Premier’s Operation Dignity Programme, host an official tombstones unveiling ceremony in memory of the four children, aged 1, 5, 7 and 8, who tragically lost their lives in a house fire in August last year. The children were from three families, namely the Ntwagae, Kgosiemang and Twala families in Tshing Township, Ventersdorp, JB Marks Local Municipality.

The ceremony forms part of ongoing efforts to preserve the dignity and memory of community members through the Premier’s Operation Dignity Programme.

The programme, coordinated by the NWPCA, is one of the commitments made by Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi during the provincial World AIDS Day 2024 and World TB Day 2025 commemorations.

This flagship initiative is designed to provide decisive, coordinated and targeted interventions to communities and households experiencing extreme poverty, vulnerability and emergency conditions. The programme has previously facilitated the erection of tombstones in various districts across the province, and has since expanded to address broader societal needs aimed at restoring dignity and honour within communities.

The programme adopts a multi-sectoral approach that mobilises government, civil society and the private sector to deliver tangible, dignity-restoring interventions, while respecting and complementing existing departmental and municipal mandates. The tombstones have been donated by a local Ward Councillor.

Members of the Media are invited to attend and cover the tombstones unveiling ceremony for the four children, which will be held as follows:-

Date   : Sunday, 23 August 2026

Venue: Tshing Township, Ventersdorp, JB Marks Local Municipality

Time  : 07h00
