European Court Rules Norway Violated Human Rights in Child Adoption Case

(MENAFN) The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled that Norway committed human rights violations in a child adoption case and ordered the state to pay €25,000 (about $28,900) in compensation to the parents, along with coverage of legal costs, according to reports from Norwegian media.

The court found that Norway breached Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which protects the right to respect for family life. The case involved a child who was taken from its parents by child welfare authorities and later placed for adoption around eleven years ago, according to multiple broadcasters.

Under the ruling, the Norwegian state must provide financial compensation to the parents in addition to covering associated legal expenses.

Reports also noted that this decision represents the 24th time Norway has been found in violation of child welfare-related cases before the ECHR over the past nine years.
